Objectives of the discipline in the context of the degree:
1) Provide students with the concepts and other theoretical-practical instruments of management of non-profit organizations.
2) Contribute to the interdisciplinary training of social work technicians.
Specific objectives of the discipline:
1) To give analysis and decision-making skills to social workers and other professionals, in the field of management, to be able to contribute to the strategic and operational planning and management of organizations and/or projects.
2) Promote the understanding and use of management tools that increase the effectiveness and efficiency of organizations.
1. The Third Sector
The contents are organized in an integrated way, aiming to allow the analysis of concepts and perspectives pertinent to the understanding of the organizations of the 3rd sector, the main employer of social workers. It starts from a contextual approach of the organizations that operate in this sector and its main characteristics for the study of some of the main challenges that are posed to the management of this type of organizations, based on the concepts and functions of the managerial activity.
Overall, it is intended to promote the acquisition of basic but solid knowledge of Management of Social Organizations, where mostly Social Workers will perform their professional functions.

The development of the contents will be carried out based on a theoretical approach, building a basic reference framework that allows the understanding of the requirements, principles and strategies that should guide the management of social organizations. For this, the expository method will be used and also the exemplification through the approach of practical cases.

Three tests, each with a weighting of 1/3. The first and second tests are held during the academic period, the third on the same date as the final exam of the normal season. The minimum grade required in any of the tests is 6.5 values, as provided for in the Knowledge Assessment Regulation (RAC).
For non-working students, there is a 10% weighting of the final grade depending on the presence in classes.
