1 - Provide contact with fundamental themes and content about development and social inequality in Portugal, challenging the student to participate in the construction of critical knowledge about the socio, political and economic reality of Portugal.
2 - Develop a perception of the importance of interpretations regarding economic development and social inequality in peripheral countries for understanding social, political and economic aspects, aiming to understand reality in order to transform it.
3 ¿ Understand the historical context of social work in Portugal and its relationship with community work;
4 ¿ Analyze the debate on community development in light of the context of the development of the capitalist system;
5 ¿ Verify how Amartya Sem's theory about development as freedom is incorporated by the neoliberal agenda in the construction of Public Social Policies;
6 ¿ Identify the main participatory community work methodologies;
7 ¿ Understand the construction of a community development project in light of the internship fields.
Unity 1 : Capitalist Development and Social Inequality; ocial Development of Portugal; Social inequality in Portugal and public responses to this process
Unit 2: Portuguese social service and its interface with the construction of public social policies; The community work of Portuguese social services
Unit 3: Development as freedom in Amartya Sen¿s theory; The incorporation of part of Amrtya Sem's thesis into the neoliberal agenda
Unit 4: Community Development Project; Stages of the project construction process; The project to meet specific demands of the most vulnerable social groups in Portugal.
The programmatic contents mobilize several theoretical and methodological contributions to understand the social intervention from the perspective of community development and the indispensability of the involvement of local actors (population groups in vulnerable situations, local authorities, institutional and business agents, associations of local basis, ...) in the process. At the same time, they advance with relevant elements to problematize the role that the Social Work has/should have in this field of action, identifying and defining the most important procedures and ways of doing associated with it. They also provide tools in the field of knowledge to conceive and plan intervention projects with the community(s) and in partnership.

Discipline with theoretical and practical character, so the methodology of teaching-learning is oriented in two directions: expository lessons for presentation of programmatic content, illustrated with concrete examples and appealing to the participation and critical thinking of students, especially capitalizing on their experiences in the framework of field work; practical lessons: (I) reflection on practices of social work with communities (collaboration of professionals in the field); (II) exercise and training of skills in the field of training and dynamization of groups, collective actions and the construction of partnerships. In accordance with the nature of the syllabus and teaching methodology, the evaluation will integrate two moments: a test for the evaluation of theoretical and abstract knowledge; group work where students will be challenged to design and plan an intervention project to address the problems and needs of a real or hypothetical community.
