Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

Acquire specific knowledge within the scope of the rights of the elderly at national and European Union level; Acquire specific technical knowledge within the scope of civil law and criminal law; Develop skills to legally protect the elderly; Appreciate everyday life situations of an elderly person and legally frame them; Critically assess the legal system for protecting the elderly.

1. Basic legal concepts
2. Analysis of the regime and main national, regional and international legal documents on fundamental rights
3. The legal and civil protection of the elderly
3.1. Personality, Capacity, Disability and their supply
3.2. Civil responsability
3.3. Marriage and property regime
3.4. The foods
3.5. Death and its legal consequences (succession).

4. The legal and criminal protection of the elderly: crimes against the elderly and ways of reacting.
5. Reference to the Mental Health law and Compulsive Hospitalization.
6. The living will.
7. Current issues: ageism, the elderly at risk and the sustainability of social security.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

This Curricular Unit aims to provide the student with technical-legal knowledge to protect the elderly/aged person and simultaneously provide the student in this area with essential legal knowledge to carry out their professional activity (namely, in the management of support centers for the elderly and provision of gerontological consultancy services to the most varied entities) in its various aspects

This Curricular Unit aims at skills in the area of knowledge and ability to analyze the legal framework in the area of Civil Law, Criminal Law and all branches of law that regulate the rights and duties of the elderly, argumentative skills necessary to support opinions and opinions. family follow-up plans, support for judicial decision-making and operational competences in the field of access to rights and guarantees.
